Whirlpool Service Companies

Whirlpool has made several updates to the Service Operating Guide (SOG).  We are changing the service guidelines on Customer Instruction, Installation Correction and Store Stock warranty calls.

Why is Whirlpool changing these service policies?

Whirlpool is focused on continuous improvement and reducing unnecessary warranty costs.  New product warranties continue to advise consumers that service calls related to Installation Correction or Customer Instruction on use and care are not covered under warranty.  The new policy timelines now give service companies the flexibility of covering these calls under warranty within 30 days for Installation Correction and 90 days for Customer Instruction.

Whirlpool Distribution Center consolidation

Whirlpool Corporation recently announced it will consolidate the Milan, TN Parts Distribution Center into the Plainfield, IN Parts Distribution Center, creating one U.S. Parts Distribution Center.  The consolidation will be complete by first quarter, 2008.

The consolidation will provide one single, streamlined location to effectively distribute service parts to our parts distributors, trade partners, and ultimately our customers.

We will work closely with you during this transition period to ensure there are no interruptions to your business.  We will communicate with you once a distribution center consolidation plan has been finalized, which will include timing and any affect it may have on your operations.  We do not expect the transition to begin before this September, 2007.

Our top priority remains staying focused on the business and continuing to deliver the best service our business partners and customers expect and deserve.

New Replacement Part Changes

As you may know, Whirlpool Corporation acquired Maytag Corporation earlier in 2006. We have taken many steps to integrate our companies. Please note: service companies and dealers buying replacement parts direct from Maytag today will need to find an authorized parts distributor to purchase replacement parts by March 15, 2007.

Beginning March 15, you will need to contact a Parts Distributor for assistance with your future parts ordering, parts research, and other Whirlpool or Maytag service parts needs. If you are an RV dealer please contact DTI at (800)289-0919 or one of our authorized parts distributors. To locate an authorized Parts Distributor in your area go to www.servicematters.com. Click on “Parts and Accessories,” then select “Parts Distributors.” This will upload a map of the U.S. (Click the state of your choice to see a listing of all authorized distributors and contact information for your area.)

Back Ordered Maytag Compressors
PN 12002634 & PN 12002726

The two Maytag compressor kits listed above have been on back order for quite some time. Both of these kits can be subbed over to Whirlpool kits, as outlined below. There has been some confusion raised in the past over which Whirlpool kit number should be subbed. Please reference the below information.

Maytag PN 12002634 = Tecumseh PN TPG1370YXA, Subs to: Whirlpool PN 8201555=Embraco PN EGY70HLP

Maytag PN 12002726 = Tecumseh PN TPG1380YXA, Subs to Whirlpool PN 8201557=Embraco PN EGY80HLP

Also, this parts substitution can now be entered into Service Bench by the service company when processing a warranty service claim. I.E. If a service company substitutes one of the Maytag compressors listed above with the correct Whirlpool substitution under warranty, they can list the Whirlpool part number they actually used on the Service Bench claim and it will process.

PLEASE NOTE: This substitution is an exception to using Whirlpool parts on Maytag models or Maytag parts on Whirlpool models. This functionality will not exist until early 2007, at which time we will communicate to the service network…..

Change in the VRU

Engineering's Direct Link to Technicians.

The Whirlpool Techline will change the incoming call selections on Monday 5/15/2006. We will be adding a selection for technicians to leave a voice mail for engineering. This will be reviewed by assigned engineers in each product category, Laundry ,Cooking, Refrigeration, Dishwasher/Disposer/Compactor.

We are asking for the Tech to leave their Name, Store #, Contact Phone #, Model # , Serial #, and a brief description of the issue. They can also leave comments on the product, possible fixes, or a better way to take a unit apart. Any constructive feedback will be welcome.

The selection on the VRU will be # 5. This will be a trial program running till August 31,2006 at which time the program will be reviewed for it's worth. At that time the program will be extended or deleted.

This is the opportunity that the ISC techs wanted. It can be a great benefit to Whirlpool and our ISC family.

Please include the date and any pertinent comments. Contact the store RTM or your FSR with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your assistance.
